Project 02 is an original aristocratic survival horror game concept. When engineering the architecture for this IP, the objective was to completely redefine the genre. We constructed an interactive narrative around the concept of “macabre tourism,” where the environment is a living, consuming entity.
The result is The Hallowed Strain, a masterclass in the intersection of extreme wealth and absolute biological decay.

A Symbiotic Pathogen
The isolation is absolute. The narrative centers on the 19th-century Von Hallowed estate, a sprawling architectural marvel infected by a symbiotic pathogen known as the Strain. The estate operates as a single, massive organism. The castle must consume its visitors to survive. This is the harvest.
To visualize this, we had to reject the standard haunted house aesthetic. The horror in the Von Hallowed is woven directly into the luxury rather than hiding in the shadows.
The Visual Bleed: Organic Rot and Subsurface Scattering
A living, infected castle looks perfectly pristine to a tourist—until the velvet wallpaper breathes. The visual execution required a high-fidelity pipeline to capture the exact moment opulence crosses into necrosis.
The identity of the estate was established through meticulous photogrammetry of real 19th-century European manors. Physical artifacts, such as the Sanguis Sacris vintage, were designed with tactile materials—thick glass, aged copper, and textured paper. Every touchpoint feels premium, historical, and deeply inviting.
The cellular corruption is revealed entirely through the manipulation of textures. Using subsurface scattering, we engineered the marble columns and silk drapery to absorb light exactly like human skin. As the Strain takes over, the deep, rich crimsons and warm golds of aristocratic wealth are slowly overwhelmed by sickly, organic hues.
The cinematic sequences orchestrate the exact moment the illusion breaks. We utilized Houdini fluid simulations to animate the aggressive, biological expansion of the pathogen. The meticulous, high-craft architecture of the estate is physically torn apart from the inside out.
The Auditory Paradox: The Waltz and The Pulse
Visual decay requires auditory confirmation. The sound design was engineered to create an intense, suffocating sensory paradox. The pristine, sweeping audio created was fed through a granular synthesizer and modulated by the low-frequency recording of a large animal’s heartbeat. The clean echo bouncing off the marble floors is slowly drowned out by a low, rhythmic, wet pulse.
The estate is not silent. It is digesting.
The castle awaits. The Harvest Begins.
